About the Harriettes

Bangkok Hash House Harriettes (the Harriettes) meet on Wednesday evenings for a fun run and a few beers. All are welcome to come along. The Harriettes was formed in 1982 and has met every Wednesday since then - over 1300 times so far. Runs are usually on the outskirts of Bangkok, and as a result we see far more of the city and surrounding areas than you would normally do. Runs lasts about one hour, but there are several 'checks' which allow the slower runners to catch up with the rest of the pack. The trail often goes off the beaten track, so wearing new running shoes and clothes is not a good idea. Participants come from all walks of life, and various parts of the world - including Thailand! Typically about 20 people turn up each week.

Run Fee / Registration

Run fee for visitors is 100 Baht (Harriettes)/200 Baht (Harriers) - this covers snacks, beer and soft drinks.

The Trail

Runs normally last 1 hour depending on the hare, the weather and the average intelligence of the pack. The trail is typically marked with shredded paper, chalk and flour. Checks are marked with an "X" and are broken when solved. There are plenty of opportunities for walkers.

After the run we socialise with softies, beers, nibbles, a traditional hash circle and down-downs, songs and "Tits of the Week award. Then we go for dinner (On On On) at a local Thai restaurant where we share the cost of dinner and drinks.

Run sites are announced on this website and in the Bangkok Post's Saturday Sports Page.

Though Harrietting is traditionally a women's thing, the Bangkok Harriettes welcomes visitors of the opposite sex. Dress Code - Always hash gear! Visitors can buy Harriettes gear at the run if Hash Haberdsh turns up. After a few runs you will be asked to pay B200 for ‘life membership’. Members get a weekly newsletter and pay cheaper run fees.

Getting a lift - meet at Noriega's

Please call Hash Tranport Frank "Noriega" Allum after 14:00 on 081 834 6855 to make sure he is in town on run day then get to Noriega's Bar no later than 16.00. Frank is sorry but his bar staff will not be able to help you if you are late.

If you are going on your own, taxis are plentiful and cheap but most taxi drivers do not speak much English. Taxi drivers generally do not understand maps either, so if possible get someone at your hotel to write down the destination (or last named road) in Thai and print the directions from this website. A taxi ride to the furthest location will probably cost about B200, with another B50 for tolls. Taxis are metered, so you don't have to negotiate the fare in advance. The meter in the taxi shows the distance travelled in kilometers as well as the fare, so when the directions specify distances you can follow this on the meter.

If you are going to take a taxi, just make sure you hail a moving cab. Taxis parked outside hotels are reluctant to turn on their meters.

Buses are very cheap but also very slow, and so are not recommended. After the run you will always be able to get a lift back into the city.

Most journeys to the Hash involve going on one or more of Bangkok's elevated expressways, all of which charge. For some runs, you can take the BTS (Skytrain) or MRT (Metro)
